From Disorientation to Becoming a Qualified Personal Trainer
Case Study: Scott Lewis
Recently FitAsylum caught up with Scott, who completed the Level 3 Personal Trainer Course. Read on to find out what he had to say about his experience...
We caught up with Scott to see how his Personal Training Course had been for him due to the challenges he had faced with borderline personality disorder, having recently completed his qualification. We asked Scott for a bit of background before he started his course and why he wanted to complete his Personal Training qualification.
Due to a multitude of reasons Scott found himself struggling with mental health issues and when he looked at himself, he realised that the time he could focus and manage his mental health he was involved with sport and fitness. Scott took the decision to follow his passion for training and keeping fit by becoming a Personal Trainer with Fitasylum. For Scott to become a Personal Trainer, it took longer than he would have liked due to taking a couple of breaks in learning to allow him to refocus and manage other personal issues. Scott said, “Without the fantastic support of Nathan and other staff such as Dec and Harry I would never have achieved my goal. They supported me every step of the way and Nathan pushed me and guided me right to the end of my qualification”.
We asked Scott what the aim of his PT course was, and he replied, “To continue to turn my life around and once I am out of primary care use the qualification to support others in situations, I found myself in”.
Scott chose Fitasylum because he had researched on Google and read the many positive reviews and after speaking to Vikki in the office, he knew this was an organisation that cared and would support him.
“Scott has been exceptional on the course; tackling everything that was thrown at him and never giving up. Scott used every possible resource and opportunity that he could on the course, which allowed us to work on solidifying his knowledge and building a business for Scott to be proud of.”
Tutor: Nathan Crabtree
We wanted to know what Scott had enjoyed most about his qualification. He said, “Nutrition, I learnt a lot on the nutrition module, especially dietary analysis from the course and how it affected my mood depending on what I had eaten. This allowed me to look at my own diet and make changes to not only make me feel better but also manage my emotions. The resources and teaching available really helped me with manuals, online resources, and my favourite the workshops with Nathan and Dec.”
We asked Scott if he would recommend Fitasylum, “The courses surpassed my expectations, and the support time and effort Nathan gave me was above and beyond. So yes, I would recommend Fitasylum without hesitation.”
We asked Scott what his plans were going forward. He said I am doing my level 2 in Mental Health & Awareness and then the Level 3 Exercise Referral with Fitasylum and hope Nathan is my tutor, which for me would be excellent. Scott has also signed up with Fitasylum Academy to gain knowledge on setting his business up in the future and get knowledge from other Personal Trainers with more experience than me.
